During our trip to Hawaii, we were lucky to have accommodation in a one-bedroom suite at Disney's Aulani Resort and Spa. The suite had a full kitchen, enabling us to cook some meals using groceries purchased from nearby stores. Even though the groceries were somewhat expensive, it did assist us in cutting costs compared to eating out for every meal.

Our breakfast experience at Makahiki – The Bounty of the Islands was delightful, even though it had transitioned from a buffet to a three-course meal. This character breakfast allows you to meet Mickey before being seated for your meal and have your photo taken with him. Chip, Dale, and Pluto made appearances during our meal, but they were not in a hurry and took the time to pose for photos. The food was all excellent, with the standout being the MALASADAS (Hawaii’s popular Portuguese sugar donut) which was a favorite for all of us. Overall, we all thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience.
When hanging out by the pool or on the beach and needing to cool off make sure to grab yourself some shave ice from Pāpālua Shave Ice. For an extra dollar they'll even add ears to make it look like a Mickey Head, we opted for this version and usually 3 flavours but eat it quick because it will melt fast. Our favourite pool side snack was probably from Mama's Snack Stop where we would get the Coconut Breaded Shrimp and the Chicken Fingers both great tasting and quite reasonably priced.
One evening, we chose to have pizza from Ulu Cafe, but it turned out to be the least enjoyable meal we had on the property. We don't suggest spending your money on it. Instead, we recommend going to the Country Market across the road and trying a Poke Bowl or a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich, both of which were much better. However, getting snacks from Ulu Cafe was a good option, as they offered Rice Krispy treats and other items.

Our absolute favourite spot that we ate at was by far Off the Hook (reservations recommended) the staff was great and the food was outstanding. We started with the Sweet and Sticky Pork Ribs, Andrew ate the Crab Cake BLT, Madison and I each shared our entrees one was the Capellini Pasta and the other was the Chicken Club, such great food but the drinks were pretty good too. If you have a chance order the Tropical Itch, you won't regret it.
We had done some research on what was in the area and a ton of people talked about Monkey Pod which is right across the road from Aulani and we thought we would give it a try. We didn't make a reservation (although this is recommended) we just walked up and put our name on a waitlist, took about a 20 min wait before we were called to be seated.
We were excited to try the food since we had read and heard such good things about it but unfortunately when our food arrived and we took our first bites we were somewhat disappointed. I had the Fresh Fish Taco's and it was pretty bland, Madison had the hamburger and she seemed to enjoyed it, Savannah had the Saiman but didn't really eat it, Andrew had the Bulgogi Pork Taco's and again they were flavourless. We did start with the Lobster Deviled Eggs and the Poke Taco's and they were ok had a bit more flavour to them. However, the live entertainment was great and probably our favourite part of the meal. We may have just been there on an off night so hopefully if you go and try it you have a better experience. Let me know if you do
