Lasting Memories: Aboard the Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Published on 18 October 2024 at 14:11

Upon boarding the Disney Dream for our 4 night cruise, our family name was announced and a line of staff members welcomed us onboard. While I personally enjoyed this, some may find the added attention uncomfortable, especially if others who boarded before you are still nearby and shift their focus towards you. I would definitely be one of those who changes my attention to also applaud as you board. I love this part because I think it enhances the experience and adds a touch of magic.

Each ship is beautifully designed with gorgeous statues and chandeliers hanging in the centre of the atrium. The Disney Dream is no exception, you'll find a charming bronze statue of Donald Duck prominently displayed in the ship's atrium lobby. Donald is wearing a sailor’s uniform, complete with a traditional sailor's cap and scarf, capturing his classic, mischievous expression that we know and love. His playful stance is evident with one hand placed on his hip and the other pointing upwards, giving the impression that he is ready to set off on a new thrilling journey. The charming statue showcases the iconic character of Donald Duck and creates a magical, family-friendly atmosphere that you can look forward to experiencing on the Disney Dream.

With its elegance and magic, the chandelier in the ship's grand atrium serves as a stunning centerpiece. Composed of more than 88,000 Swarovski crystals, it cascades down from the ceiling like a shimmering waterfall, sparkling and reflecting light to create a dazzling effect.

The chandelier boasts elegant and flowing lines reminiscent of a peacock's tail, adorned with vibrant hues of blues, golds, and greens. These colors harmoniously blend to enhance the atrium's opulent decor, characterized by rich deep blues, golden tones, and lavish detailing. Crafted by the esteemed glass artist Dale Chihuly, the chandelier's intricate glasswork adds to its exceptional beauty and uniqueness. Impressive in size, it spans almost 13 feet in width and descends nearly 22 feet, establishing itself as one of the largest chandeliers at sea. Its sheer magnificence is truly captivating.

One of the highlights of cruising for us is the incredible food offerings! On the Disney Dream, as with all Disney ships, you'll have the opportunity to dine at three main restaurants: Animator's Palate, Enchanted Garden, and Royal Palace, each offering delectable meals with their own unique themes. If you're looking for breakfast and lunch options, head to Cabanas, the ship's buffet.

For a quick and tasty meal, visit Luigi's Pizza, Tow Mater's Grill, and Fillmore's Favorites—each inspired by Disney·Pixar's Cars—where you can indulge in burgers, chicken, pizza, salads, and sandwiches. The late-night selections at these spots were a particular favorite of ours. And let's not overlook room service, providing even more dining choices!

While we didn't have the chance to dine at the following two locations, if you're seeking a more upscale dining experience, you might want to make a reservation at Remy or Palo. Both of these require reservations and involve an additional fee.

Craving something sweet? Stop by Frozone Treats for some soft-serve ice cream, or visit Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats for a delightful array of candies and desserts—just keep in mind that there's an added cost at Vanellope’s.

Since this was our first cruise we were learning a lot, we didn't spend any time in any of the lounges or pubs, we didn't do any trivia or family games and honestly it didn't effect the wonderful time we had on our cruise.

The girls checked out the kids clubs and Madison really enjoyed The Edge where Savannah felt too shy to go by herself to The Oceaneer Club.

Strolling along deck 4, relaxing on chairs, and listening to the ocean was a delightful and refreshing experience. We opted for a more relaxed approach during our cruise (being our first), focusing on enjoying each other's company, exploring the ship, and savoring the delicious food without feeling the pressure to try everything.

We enjoyed movies on the pool deck, embraced Pirate night to the fullest, and had a fantastic time. We decided to dress up for the occasion, but those that were not dressed up equally enjoyed their time. Whether you dress up or not, you're sure to have a wonderful time, so don't feel pressured to go and buy a Pirate costume.

Beauty and the Beast is my absolute favorite movie of all time. One of the reasons we chose to sail on the Disney Dream initially (for me anyway) was because of the Broadway-style show featuring Beauty and the Beast. Get ready to be captivated as you delve into this classic story presented in a stunning and captivating performance on the ship. It was so fantastic I cried, so you may want to bring some tissues.

There is so much to see and do you will never fit it all in on one sailing. We will be back on the Disney Dream at some point in the future. Who knows maybe it will be a European Cruise the next time we sail the Dream. With so much more to explore and experience we won't miss the opportunity to sail the Dream again.
